Cypriot WindsurferThe 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships have just been held in Perth from the 3rd to the 18th of December. They are the principal qualification event for the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition in Southampton next Summer. With over 1,500 sailors and more than 1,000 boats representing 80 nations, it is set to be a huge event.

The Cypriot representatives have already got off to an admirable start with Andreas Cariolou, who is currently ranked 4th in the world, finished in 16th place (out of 90) in the men’s windsurfing. Pavlos Kontides finished in 10th place out of 147 competitors in the men’s one person dinghy, Haris Papadopoulos finished in 53rd place out of 72 in the men’s heavyweight one person dinghy and Eirini Nikola Makedona finished 62nd out of 79 in the women’s windsurfing.

We would like the team to know that the Cypriot Community of WA is behind them all the way and we wish the qualifiers all the best for for London in 2012 Olympics.
